Description

Original drawing by Xavier Nogués depicting two standing male figures reading. Sketch for the programme of the tenth concert of the 1932-1933 season. At the bottom, there are annotations in ink to the text to be included in the programme, along with a handwritten note in ink: “Unpublished drawing by Xavier Nogués”. 4th May 1933. (Fons Manuel Clausells. Doc. 7047; FC63 Dossiers 1932-1933).

The Associació de Música Da Camera was founded in Barcelona in April 1913 by members of the city’s bourgeoisie who were lovers of art and music. In 1917, Manuel Clausells took up the post of secretary. The association was dissolved in 1936 following his murder that same year. It usually held its concerts at the Palau de la Música, where it was based for many years.
The artist Joan Abelló purchased Manuel Clausells’ entire music archive from a Barcelona antiques dealer and since 2006, it has been the property of the Manuel Clausells Archive Documentation Centre at the Museu Municipal Joan Abelló in Mollet del Vallès. The documents held in the archive are an invaluable resource that gives us an in-depth insight into Barcelona’s music scene in the early 20th century.

We would like to thank Pepa Ventura, director of the Fundació Municipal Joan Abelló, for her assistance in cataloguing this work, as well as the Orfeó Català Documentation Centre (CEDOC) at the Palau de la Música.
