Description

The poster advertised a series of fifteen concerts by the Cortot-Thibaud-Casals Trio, organised by the Association for its members (1921-1922 season). It has a geometric border and a decorative motif featuring a violin. (Fons Manuel Clausells. Doc. 5.758; found in a plan chest (2D restoration).

The Associació de Música Da Camera was founded in Barcelona in April 1913 by members of the city’s bourgeoisie who were lovers of art and music. In 1917, Manuel Clausells took up the post of secretary. The association was dissolved in 1936 following his murder that same year. It usually held its concerts at the Palau de la Música, where it was based for many years.

The artist Joan Abelló purchased Manuel Clausells’ entire music archive from a Barcelona antiques dealer and since 2006, it has been the property of the Manuel Clausells Archive Documentation Centre at the Museu Municipal Joan Abelló in Mollet del Vallès. The documents held in the archive are an invaluable resource that gives us an in-depth insight into Barcelona’s music scene in the early 20th century.

We would like to thank Pepa Ventura, director of the Fundació Municipal Joan Abelló, for her assistance in cataloguing this work, as well as the Orfeó Català Documentation Centre (CEDOC) at the Palau de la Música.
