Description

Allegory of the Rambla de Santa Mònica was originally part of the decor of the Café de la Rambla in Barcelona. The composition features a standing female figure with a group of flags behind her, alluding to the final stretch of the Rambla, where many hotels were located, including the Quatre Nacions. The work is part of a group of four paintings. Two of them are held in the modern art collection of the Fundació Banc Sabadell (inv. nos. P0087 and P0088), while another is in the collection of OBA/ART (Barcelona). A label from the Galeria Syra (Passeig de Gràcia 43, Barcelona) is attached to the reverse. The painting is currently in storage at OBA/ART, Carrer de la Palla 4, Barcelona. The work is in good condition. There are minor retouches to the woman’s skirt and to the background, particularly the flags, but these are of minor importance.

We would like to thank the gallery director, Òscar Pàmies (OBA/ART), for making it possible to include this work in our online catalogue.
