Description
Drawing, probably by Xavier Nogués, in the sketchbooks he used on the road trip organised by the board of the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition for the building of the visitor attraction, the Poble Espanyol, on Montjuïc. The head curator of the exhibition, Lluís Plandiura, appointed four cultural figures to study examples of iconic Spanish architectural landmarks: the artist Xavier Nogués, the architect Ramon Reventós, the multifaceted Miquel Utrillo (engineer, patron of the arts, painter and art critic) and the architect Francesc Falguera, who made sketches and notes about the buildings that would make up the Poble Espanyol, and took photographs of them. The first road trip took place between 2nd September and 2nd October 1927 and visited different towns and villages in Aragon.
This drawing (notebook 3, p. 12) features the outlines of Ayerbe. Apart of the name of the village, can be read “Antigua casa de los Lucas” and down another location: “Murillo de Gállego” i “identificado” (identified).
The group of four worked together on the notebooks and by the end of the road trip they had completed five of them. Most of the artistic drawings are by Nogués, whereas the sketches, elevations and plans were by Reventós. This and the other drawings are now in the collection of Ramon Reventós’ family.
We would like to thank Sandra Moliner for helping us catalogue these works.
