Description

Panel of 35 ceramic tiles decorated with a landscape and a river fishing scene, inside a Renaissance-style frieze. It was displayed on the ground floor of the former chocolate shop, Can Culleretes (Carrer Quintana, 5) in Barcelona. Made in collaboration with the ceramicist Francesc Quer (1858-1933) at the Pujol i Bausis factory in Esplugues de Llobregat. It was made in 1923 for the restaurant Can Culleretes in Barcelona, which was founded in 1786 as a chocolate shop and converted into a restaurant shortly after being purchased by the renowned restaurateur Miquel Regás (1880-1965). The interior designer Jaume Llongueras (1883-1955) commissioned Nogués to decorate the tiled panels and dados. Some of the panels were kept in Regàs’ collection (Tiana) and others were transferred to the cellar at the Palauet Plandiura (La Garriga) before being donated to the Museu del Disseny in Barcelona. This panel was purchased from Establecimientos Maragall, SA. Image rights: Guillem Fernández
