Description

The Barcelona businessman and collector Lluís Plandiura commissioned Xavier Nogués to decorate the living room of his residence in Barcelona (carrer de la Ribera, 6). This work, known as the “Saló Catalunya”, became one of the most emblematic mural sets of Noucentisme. Nogués captured popular and festive scenes in tempera with his characteristic ironic, refined and Mediterranean style. On the large panels on the walls he represented: Popular songs of Catalan folklore. In Scotland near the ceiling were shown: The months of the year; and on other panels on the walls: The four seasons. The space functioned both as a showcase for the patron’s large art collection and as a meeting point for intellectuals.

Currently, the conservation of these murals is a concern. The private property has been closed to the public for decades and their state of conservation is unknown. Old black and white photographs.
