Description
This album of drawings and popular sayings is based on the popular Catalan tradition represented by native expressions. Through the playful illustrations of Nogués and the comments of the writer, poet and philosopher Francesc Pujols, they end up creating an interesting tandem, where each one expresses himself with the language that he most dominates, with a shared critical and ironic sense, but never shrill or out of tune. Some of the drawings had previously been published in Revista Nova. They are prints of everyday life, animated and alive, framed in the most realistic noucentisme, which ironically portray attitudes and behaviors that are sometimes outlandish, sometimes not praiseworthy rooted in Catalan idiosyncrasy.
Five sections consisting of ten engravings each with a text by Francesc Pujols. Barcelona, Libreria Catalonia, 1933. 54 sheets. With a text and fifty illustrations by Nogués, signed as “Babel”. Image rights: Palau Antiguitats. (Second edition).
