Description
Xavier Nogués’ friendship with his patron Lluís Plandiura was not only confined to the decoration of his Barcelona residence. He entrusted him with the murals in the dining room (1934-1936) of his home in La Garriga, and commissioned Jaume Llongueras with the overall decoration. On the three available sections of wall, the artist created three murals, which he titled “Fishing and Hunting”, “Summer” and “Harvest” (the latter two were also referred to as “Flowers” and “Fruits”). The murals are monochrome, in sepia tones, and recall the easel paintings the artist produced between 1935 and 1939. When the Plandiura family sold the property, the murals were removed from the walls. Their current whereabouts are unknown.
On 12th February 2026, the Barcelona auction house Subarna sold the panel titled Summer (lot 655), signed and dated by Nogués in 1936. On April 16th, the two remaining panels, “Harvest” (lot 808) and “Fishing and Hunting” (lot 816), were put up for auction.
We would like to thank the Subarna Auction House for their help in cataloguing the works and their images. Especially María Rodríguez, from the Painting Department.
