Description
Original drawing by Xavier Nogués depicting a seated woman. Sketch for the programme of the second concert of the 1932-1933 season. At the bottom, there are annotations in ink to the text to be included in the programme, along with a handwritten note in ink: “Unpublished drawing by Xavier Nogués”. (Fons Manuel Clausells. Doc. 5989; FC48 Arxiu Clausells – Miscellaneous (III)).
The Associació Música Da Camera was founded in Barcelona in April 1913 by members of the city’s bourgeoisie who were lovers of art and music. In 1917, Manuel Clausells took up the post of secretary. The association was dissolved in 1936 following his murder that same year. It usually held its concerts at the Palau de la Música, where it was based for many years.
The artist Joan Abelló purchased Manuel Clausells’ entire music archive from a Barcelona antiques dealer and since 2006, it has been the property of the Manuel Clausells Archive Documentation Centre at the Museu Municipal Joan Abelló in Mollet del Vallès. The documents held in the archive are an invaluable resource that gives us an in-depth insight into Barcelona’s music scene in the early 20th century. Since 2024, the Orfeó Català Documentation Centre (CEDOC), working with the Museu Abelló, has been processing and digitising the Manuel Clausells Archive and putting its contents online.
We would like to thank Pepa Ventura, director of the Fundació Municipal Joan Abelló, for her assistance in cataloguing this work, as well as the CEDOC at the Palau de la Música.
