Description
Small glass featuring a man sitting and holding a bottle of wine in his right hand. Several examples of this glass have been found in museums, galleries and private collections. One of them is now held by the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC). It was formerly in the Salvador Riera collection. In 1995 it was deposited at the MNAC by the Catalan government (accessioned in 2004). The Museu del Disseny de Barcelona DHub has another which comes from the Isabel Escalada collection (MADB 107.561). Two further examples have been found in art galleries: one at the Palau Antiguitats (bearing the inscription “Nogués p. / Crespo f. 10 / 2” on its base), which is now in a private collection, and another at the Clavell & Morgades gallery, which came from a private collection. Of these four glasses, the one at the DHub is particularly significant because it comes from the collection of Isabel Escalada, the artist’s widow, and has a personal connection with the artist.
The photograph shows the glass from the Clavell & Morgades gallery, as it is the best available image of the piece. The information in the other fields is based on the glass from the MNAC, which is the best documented as it is in a public collection and is considered of greatest significance.
We would like to thank the MNAC, the Museu del Disseny DHub, Palau Antiguitats and Clavell & Morgades for their assistance in cataloguing the different examples of this glass.

Notes
With the collaboration of Conxa Domènech. Xavier Nogués is the author of the drawings and, sometimes, also of the pictorial transposition with enamel on the glass, Ricard Crespo was responsible for the firing of the pieces and Conxa Domènech de Crespo who also traced and reviewed Nogués’ drawings. The degree of Xavier Nogués’ direct participation is especially evident in the finishes and when compared with the original drawings.
